Gill’s first year as Festival Director of Vivid Sydney coincided with the “end” of the Covid-19 pandemic, heralding the reopening of Sydney. Introducing annual themes for the festival to create a more holistic experience for audiences and artists alike, in 2022 “the soul of Sydney” reconnected Sydney with audiences after the pandemic. Breaking attendance and economic benefit records, Vivid Sydney 2022 introduced a range of new initiatives including an 8km Light Walk, First Light - Welcome to Country and opening celebration, collaborations with high profile artists such as Ken Done and Leila Jeffries and a sellout season of Marcia Hines' new show The Gospel According to Marcia.
